How It Works

Cash and Liquidity Management See, Project, Control and Settle

Aquila brings liquidity monitoring and cash management together on a single platform, giving treasury and payment teams instant visibility of their true position across every account and currency.

The platform automates compliance reporting, sweeps funds in and out as thresholds are crossed, generates outward settlement messages and updates core system ledgers either automatically or on demand, replacing fragmented manual processes with monitoring, stress testing and settlement that run continuously.

A Single Live View of Liquidity and Cash

Aquila sets the day’s opening position from the prior day’s closing statement balance and then tracks every credit and debit in real time using standard Swift messages, flagging payments sent but not yet confirmed and factoring in queued payments, so what treasury sees is the projected position rather than the settled one. Peak intraday usage, available liquidity, remaining cut off windows and pending outward payments all sit in the same view.

Cash positions are projected forward across internal accounts for a chosen number of days, with the option to aggregate accounts into a single currency position, so a shortfall or a surplus becomes visible before it lands rather than afterwards. Where payments run through Aquila, release can be governed by priority or by any detail of the transaction, and held until the correspondent funding being monitored is available.

Automated Sweeping, Settlement and Posting

Once an account crosses a defined threshold, Aquila sweeps funds in or out to bring the position back into line, with support for multiple transfer layers and the option for authorised users to trigger a manual transfer at any time. Four eyes approval is configurable throughout, so the automation adds speed without removing control, and a minimum balance can be held against each account with either the full calculated amount or a rounded figure transferred.

Outward settlement messages, typically pacs.009, or credit and debit advices, are generated automatically as soon as the sweep completes. Every transfer then posts to the back office in real time through core system APIs, with return codes monitored so that any failure surfaces immediately and can be repaired, and with references, transaction codes and ledger narratives fully configurable and cross referenced in the Aquila database alongside the related messages.

Built for Regulated Treasury Operations

Basel Committee rules require a bank to prove its intraday and end of day liquidity position on demand, and PRA expectations through the Internal Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process go further, calling for regular stress testing behind that position. Aquila applies stress scenarios directly to the positions it already calculates, and produces statutory output, including Bank of England PRA submissions, from the same live data.

Benefits include:

  • Full visibility of liquidity in any currency, in real time
  • One centralised liquidity balance across the bank
  • Automated sweeping with four eyes approval where you want it
  • Faster, more defensible ILAAP and supervisory submissions
  • Added alongside your existing core banking system, not in place of it

Frequently Asked Questions related to Aquila Fort

What is Aquila Cash and Liquidity Management?

Aquila Cash and Liquidity Management monitors a bank’s intraday and end of day liquidity positions in real time, projects cash positions forward across accounts and currencies, sweeps funds in or out once defined thresholds are crossed, produces the outward settlement messages and posts the resulting entries back to the core banking system.

Aquila sets the opening position from the prior day’s closing statement balance and then tracks every credit and debit in real time using standard Swift messages. It also flags payments sent but not yet confirmed and factors in queued payments, so the figure reflects the projected position rather than the settled one.

Funds sweep in or out once an account crosses a defined threshold, with support for multiple transfer layers and four eyes approval configurable throughout. The outward settlement message, typically pacs.009, is produced automatically once the sweep completes and the posting flows back to the back office in real time through core system APIs.

Yes. Statutory output including Bank of England PRA submissions is generated from the live position data and can be automated. Liquidity stress testing applies idiosyncratic, market wide and combined scenarios to those same positions, which supports ILAAP without rebuilding the numbers in a spreadsheet.

No. Aquila sits between the core banking platform and the payment networks and connects to the core through its own APIs, so real time cash and liquidity control can be added as a layer without a core replacement programme.
